Exploring the rugged coastal landscape of Point Nepean National Park in Portsea, ‘Coalescence’ is an oceanic elixir. Reminding us of the ability of the landscape to provide discovery and danger in equal parts.

  • Exploring the rugged coastal landscape of Point Nepean National Park in Portsea, Coalescence is an oceanic elixir. Reminding us of the ability of the landscape to provide discovery and danger in equal parts. When the tide aligns, aspects of the landscape, usually hidden beneath the sea, are exposed, and the treacherous narratives connected to them are revealed. Perpetually in balance, the tides provide access to seemingly untouched parts of the coastline.

The topography of the paintings explores the alluring charm of the azure water visible through organic caves. Reflections ripple through the soft, watery blues, in deep contrast to the strong cobalt figures that appear phosphorescent in the sunlight. Fluidity and rigidity harmonise as the water erodes and brittles down the bluffs. Revealing mythical rock formations symbolic of guardian creatures protecting the shoreline.
